The Kirigami Project - Week 31 - Pop Heart
I called this design Pop Heart as the hearts feel a bit like they're popping up or flying at you. It's quite a fun effect! While the final paper cut is quite simple, that long cut can be a bit tricky - after shaping the outside edge, it's best to start with the cut closest to the fold and then the one that runs parallel to it. Remove that piece and then carry onto the heart and finally the triangular shape near the point.
I'm rather partial to the 4-point patterns as the larger folded triangle allows room to add more details or to give each section a bit of breathing space. The resulting designs are often more graphic whereas the 5-point or 6-point versions usually resemble flowers.
To create your own Pop Heart Kirigami, use the template below and the 4-point folding pattern.
Happy paper cutting!
The Kirigami Project is a collaborative creative project from Marisa Edghill of Omiyage and Geri Jewitt of The Languid Lion. Marisa creates the kirigami designs and Geri whips them into template shape! Each week In 2014, we will bring you a new kirigami design to fold and cut.
